WHAT YOU WILL FIND ON THIS WEBSITE-- READ THIS FIRST!
Consider
the following quote from Lloyd Goodwin's last sermon on July 20, 1996: "I say to every preacher on the face of this earth that
contradicts and conflicts with the message that was given to us by Brother
William Sowders and the message that goes over this pulpit - let
that preacher be damned. Let him be damned! Any preacher sitting on
this platform that doesn't feel that way, you shouldn't be up here. You're up
here because you're supporting my message..." I
personally heard statements like this my entire life, as I grew up in this
so-called church. This is but one quote that you will find on
this website. Lloyd Goodwin used tactics of fear, manipulation, and mind
control. As you can guess from the above quote, he taught that if you did not
follow him, you would likely be damned. As one studies
how cults
operate, it is easy to see the similarities. (See this article,
which describes Lloyd Goodwin perfectly, in my opinion.) When Lloyd Goodwin
died, his brother Glenn Goodwin has
consistently held up his uncle Lloyd as an "Apostle" and a great
man of God, despite statements like the above. He apparently still believes
statements like this-- he apparently still runs this church the same way that
his uncle ran it. In fact, his church thinks so highly of Lloyd Goodwin's
last sermon that they made it into a booklet titled "Brother
Goodwin's Last Message." Glenn has never made it his business to
publicly denounce statements like the above, or to disavow his uncle's mind
control tactics. In fact, in my opinion, he is a carbon copy of his uncle.
Glenn would not be ashamed to admit this. This organization
has hurt many people, as you will see when you visit the personal
experiences section. Mental abuse was constant when I grew up in this
church. Girls have
been raped in this church, and families torn apart. In addition,
according to some ex-members, the church does not and never has reported the
rent that it receives from it's tenants (the church
has three apartment buildings on the property). Tenants were instructed to
pay in cash-- yet the church claims that it does not charge rent at all.
There are also allegations that the church instructed parents on how to claim the tuition
to their school as tax deductable so they could give more to the church. (Of
course, the church did not call it tuition, yet there was a set
amount that the parents were expected to pay per month for each child
enrolled.) When Lloyd Goodwin would use the word "tuition" in a
sermon in regards to the GAC school, the person who was in charge of
recording the sermons was instructed to "bleep" that word from the
audio tape. You can
navigate this website using the menu bar on your left. If you read nothing
else on this website, read this letter from
a rape victim. I also highly recommend the following pages: Lloyd Goodwin's
misc. quotes, Lloyd
Goodwin's false prophecies, the personal stories
section, and the Glenn Goodwin page.
This website also has a message board
where you can see what others have to say and post your own thoughts. The
purpose of this website is twofold: First, to expose this
"church," and second, to provide an online "support
group" for the many ex-members of this organization. As Robert Mason
says "...to all those who might think that talking about all these
things is negative...It's only negative to the point of releasing the
hurt." Creating
this website has taken up a lot of my time. I certainly have other things
that I would rather be doing, but it needed to be done, as other people have
tried to get the church to right these wrongs, and Glenn Goodwin has refused to
listen. Have a comment? Go here.
