I did not write the following document; however, I have
published it on this website (with the permission of the author) in order to
familiarize people with the life of William Sowders, who was Lloyd Goodwin's
mentor.
I did not know William Sowders. He died before I was born. Therefore, at this
time I personally have no opinion on his character and nature.
It's important to note that Lloyd Goodwin taught (and his ministers still
teach) that Goodwin was a "true" follower of Sowders, and that all
the other Gospel Assembly Churches were not. In fact, he always described any
church that came from Sowders' ministry --but that was not part of the
Goodwin organization-- as the "old body."
However, it seems to me that if the following history is accurate, then
William Sowders would have not agreed with the practices of
Lloyd Goodwin.
For a different viewpoint on William Sowders, read Wayne Hamburger's book, Yoke of Bondage.
