THE OATH
He took an oath to reassure them and their
men. "Do not be afraid to serve the Babylonians.
Settle down and serve the king of Babylon and it will go well with you." (Many of the ministers actually signed an "oath"
to this effect. I don't know if Vernon was the one to put it together but he
did sign it. Here is that oath.)

Notice in last paragraph it says: WE WILL CLOSE RANKS, WE WILL FORSAKE ALL DISSIMULATION.
